Minor Program in Philosophy (18 semester hours)
Students may select philosophy as a minor program. Many of the course offerings in philosophy are interdisciplinary in character, and students are encouraged to relate philosophical knowledge and skills to the area of their undergraduate major. Indeed, the minor program in philosophy is especially suited to students who bring a considerable degree of intellectual initiative and independence to their work.

Related Programs
The Theology Department offers students a faithful but critical consideration of the Judeo-Christian tradition. The program provides a forum for considering the transcendent and ultimate questions of human existence and prepares men and women for a variety of ministries within the Church. The major and minor programs both require specific liberal education courses in history and philosophy.
Philosophy Minor
The Philosophy minor program gives students an opportunity to examine the fundamental questions of human existence through courses on great philosophical thinkers and important philosophical issues. The program places special emphasis on a knowledge of the historical origins of the Western philosophical tradition
Religious Studies Courses Required
Students who complete the program studies successfully will have many opportunities for varied and satisfying employment. Among some fields where a B.A. in Religious Studies is highly prized and practical are: religious education, family ministry, religion and law, health care services, youth ministry, pastoral counseling, social service agencies, political networks, ecological services, rehabilitation programs, hospice centers, and community development programs.

Ethics Minor [383]
A minor in ethics consists of six courses (18 credits). At least four of these must be from among the following: Philosophy 226, 260, 315, 316, 319, 320, 333, 349, 361, Religion 332, 333, 335, 340, and 349. The remaining two courses may be selected from elsewhere in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, or from approved courses with significant ethical content from other departments such as Sociology, Psychology, and Criminal Justice.

A minor in philosophy requires six courses (18 credits), of which at least two must be at the 300 to 400
The Area Minor in Philosophy and Religion has the following requirements:
Five courses in Philosophy and Religion, one of which must be Introduction to Philosophy (RH 101).
A minimum of 40 credits in HSS courses must be earned to obtain the minor.
Substitutions may be made with the approval of the Area Minor Adviser.

Religion is among the oldest academic disciplines pursued by humanity. The Religious Studies courses at Saint Francis University aim to provide each student the opportunity to explore the universal dimension of religious existence in the world and to study faith and religious commitment which empowers the believer to participate more fully in contemporary society, understanding that, for human beings, the world is a place where God is revealed.
General degree requirements for all students are six credits in Religious Studies distributed as follows: three credits from Religious Studies 205 and three credits from any 300- or 400-level course.

Requirements - Minor:
Religious Studies minors in Christianity, with emphasis on the Catholic tradition: 21 hours, which should include RELS-C150(3), C160(3), C165(3), C220(3), C221(3), C250(3) and a 300-level course arranged with faculty, with a grade of "C" or better.
World Religions: 21 hours, which should include RELS-C100(3), C120(3), C130(3), C285(3) and a 300-level course arranged with faculty, with a grade of "C" or better.
